Networks for background air quality monitoring

Thanks to the measurements obtained, assessments can be conducted on the background pollution levels in a region and the long-distance transport of pollutants from the emission focuses. Each station must be representative of a large area surrounding it, so all alterations that could affect the monitoring data must be avoided.

The composition of the solution of monitoring networks

The solution to monitor background air quality includes:

Continuous monitoring of background pollution

On-site stations are available to monitor background pollution, with equipment to analyze gas, particles and other elements. They transmit the data captured, in real time, to ENVIRA IoT’s control centers, in case we handle the monitoring data, or to the control center of the company that owns the network.

Each station includes a data acquisition system, with continuous data registration transmitting data to the control and management center.

The most usual pollution parameters at the background air quality monitoring stations are:

  • SO2
  • H2S
  • NO2/NO/NOX
  • CO
  • O3
  • BTX
  • PM10
  • PM2,5.

Other less usual parameters can also be monitored, such as cadmium or lead. The election of parameters will depend on the monitored area.

The data acquisition systems, as the environmental control centers, have communication modules, both among them and with external systems.

Data display and analysis

The equipment is subjected to tests so that the final result is the most accurate and reliable, a guarantee of accurate and mistake-free monitoring.

Warning systems

The acquisition and communication electronics continuously monitors background pollution and sends data to the control center at planned intervals.

Besides, if a preestablished limit is surpassed, the data communication is sent by SMS or e-mail to the authorized users.
