Perimeter monitoring at industrial facilities

Home » Perimeter monitoring at industrial facilities

Controlling the emissions of gas and particles in industries is a growing concern for the community, the environmental authorities and the managers of industrial and power plants.

Structure of the perimeter monitoring system

ENVIRA’s perimeter monitoring solution monitors the emissions of gas and particles and it includes:

1) A network of wireless sensors.

2) A smart computer system for the exploitation of the data captured to generate warnings and notifications for events that may involve risk.

How do we apply this technology?

The perimeter monitoring at industrial facilities includes wireless devices to monitor gas and particles, which have sensors for H2S, CO, NO2., VOC, SO2, PM10 and PM2.5.

The installed devices have their own electronic control that monitor the concentrations of pollutants measured by applying intelligence with expert systems to identify situations of risk or anomalous events. Some examples where expert knowledge of gas and risk are important are:

  • Level breach.
  • Presence.
  • Average levels.
  • Any calculation formula based on expert knowledge of the business.

When an event involving a risk is identified, a warning is sent to the data management center with information about the monitoring point, the concentration of pollutant, the date and the time.

It can define the following:

  • Virtual perimeters for several gases at low levels of concentration to monitor emissions.
  • Contention areas for the detection of leakages of a certain gas.
  • Multilevel barriers with sensors set up at different levels to monitor gas dispersion.

Reliability, stability and accuracy in monitoring

The calibration of sensors included in the solution for the perimeter monitoring at industrial facilities is conducted manually, one by one, at ENVIRA laboratory to internationally acknowledged standards.

Both the calibration process of the equipment at the laboratory and the corrections applied are carried out with the purpose of offering maximum reliability and stability in the results. All the sensors are subjected to tests so that the final results are the most accurate and reliable, a guarantee of accurate and mistake-free monitoring.

Communication modules

Currently, ENVIRA has the following homologated technologies:

Data display, queries and analysis

The data collected by the sensors are transmitted to the Envira DS platform, a software handling data where you can:

  • Receive and store data from the sensors, both in a local database or in the cloud.
  • Manage the users and warnings.
  • Extract reports.

The screen displays a SCADA system in a chemical plant, where the following is performed:

  • Perimeter monitoring of nitric oxide.
  • The containment of ammonia in the air in the storage area.
  • The containment of urea in water discharges in deposits.

Warning systems

The warnings to the users can be sent by SMS (additional hardware or  a subscription to a messaging service is required) or by e-mail.

The solution for perimeter monitoring at industrial facilities is interoperable with most industrial systems (SCADA) and industrial IoT platforms (IIoT) to supervise different types of installations in industrial or production processes, and thus provide a complete view of all the means for control and information at a plant.
